Updates in Room 201

Wacky Day

We have earned our 2nd class reward.  The students have earned 400 points and have chosen a Wacky Day for Friday of this week.  Students can dress in “Wacky” clothes.  Some ideas are to wear tutus, crazy hats, mismatched clothes, crazy socks, etc.

Early Release

Please remember that Friday is an early release day.  Students are dismissed at 12:15.  If anyone needs a sack lunch, please send a note or email me that your child will need one.

Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are November 6 and 8.  Mrs. Reagan sent out a google form asking for you to choose which night works best for you.  Please fill out that form as soon as you can.  We will be putting conference times together by the end of October.

Halloween Party

Our class Halloween Party will be on October 31 from 2:30-3:30.  I would love some parent volunteers to help plan the party.  If you are willing and available, please send me an email.

Culver’s Night

If you would like to help our school raise money for our school, please bring your family to CULVER’s for dinner next Monday, October 16 from 5-8pm.  The money raised will help pay for RAZ KIDS learning, books for our library, owl pellets, art equipment, PE equipment, music and steam studio supplies and more!  I am signed up to serve from 7:00 – 7:45 that night!  I would love to see you there!

Reading Book Log

ABook It!” Reading Log is coming home today.  This is now our home reading log.  Please keep it in your child’s folder as I like to check in time to time to see how they are doing.  This reading log is much simpler and only requires you to log the reading time each night and then total minutes at the end of the week.  Our goal is 20-30 minutes every week night.

Math Facts

We have started taking timed tests for multiplication, called Dashes.  These are 20 problem quizzes and students are given one minute to finish.  The quizzes group like/easy problems and then build on.  For example, Dash 1 is 2s and 5s multiplication. The next dash is 9s and 10s multiplication and so on.  Please remind your child to practice their facts at least 2-3 times per week at home.  They can do this on the computer, like Moby Max or Flash to Pass, with flash cards, with another app, or by paper and pencil timed.  The students know HOW to solve the problems.  We are now working on SPEED.

Coloring Page

A coloring page is coming home today for the Hudsonville Christmas Parade.  Some from the committee will be here on Oct. 20 to pick them up if your child would like to color one.

Welcome to 3rd Grade. . .

Welcome to 3rd grade at Georgetown! I hope you are enjoying your summer break and making many fun summer memories.  You may have heard that I will be your teacher next year.  I have known that you would be in my class since the beginning of June and it has been SO HARD to keep it a secret. 🙂

In upcoming posts, I will tell you more about myself and all that you need to know to get ready for third grade! A school supply list will be posted July 1.  I will provide most of the essentials, but a few highly recommended items are listed! Happy shopping!

Please have your parents register for email updates on the blog!  It will take less than a minute. Underneath the important events calendar is a space for you to type in your parents email and subscribe. This will alert them each time a new post is added.

I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you!  Feel free to send me an email or a picture of something fun you are doing this summer at kvander@hpseagles.net.
